Hobbit House

The students in Christian's art class were given clay and could build any kind of house that they wanted to build. Christian's hobbit house was really cool. I was so glad that he brought home more art! Twice in a week- I could get used to that. Katherine and Grant saw it when they came in and were very impressed as well. They wanted to play with it.

Christian's Escher Inspired Spaceship

I told Christian the other day that I hadn't seen much of his artwork lately and that I miss it.  The next day he brought me a new drawing. Thanks, for caring and sharing Christian! I love the work you do!

Camila and Victoria Played Each Other!

MountainView and CCHS played lacrosse on Monday. V was on Defense and Camila was on Attack only 4 players away from each other on the field. (V- navy with pink stick and C- white with orange shoes)
It was a fun game to start MountainView had a better first half and Camila scored!
Blue Devils dominated the second half and won! 9-6.

Papa came from Williamsburg and Megan, Bobby, Kattia, Danny, Grant, and Katherine came to watch too. We all cheered for both girls. Because it was an away game, Danny and Grant took the role of announcer and shouted, "Boom, boom, boom" at each Blue Devil's goal! I felt slightly embarrassed, but it seemed the other fans liked the spirited principal's BDP (Blue Devil Pride).

These girls were so happy to see each other!
Afterward we went to chick-fil-a for dinner (for those who hadn't already eaten) and ice cream. We had a good time together!

Opening Ceremonies and First Game

Play Ball!
The season kicked off on Saturday!
Grant moved up to Majors this year and is on Coach Grant's team. That will be an easy name to remember.  They are the Nationals! Grant has enjoyed practices so far! We were a little concerned with him moving up early. We don't want him to sit the bench. The coach has assured us that he sees potential in him and that is why he moved up. He can't promise that he will play all the time or anything, but thinks that if we are patient that we will see that he improves over the course of the season.

Lots of Culpeper kids playing little league!

Grant's team played a close game that afternoon. G-man didn't have much playing time and it was not his most impressive game, but he has plenty more games to prove himself and we know that he will! In an extra inning, Nationals won!

Yowell Fun Fair

Katherine was most excited to meet up with her friends Reid and Chloe at the cake walk. Grant was glad to see Beckett there too.
Katherine was so excited to see Mrs. Yard AND Mrs. Wensel at the consessions area selling pizza. It seemed like all of the staff members worked that night! Super nice of them all to stick around on a Friday night! They are great teachers!

Grant's favorite activity was playing volleyball. That was his teacher, Mrs. VanLeer's station, so he was glad to see her too!

We also saw Mrs. Wheeler, his teacher from last year. She told me that he wrote her a really nice appreciation letter. I didn't know that he had written it, but I do know that he really loved her.

I didn't get many pics, but these guys had a really fun time with friends at their school's fun fair!

More Lacrosse

V is starting and getting to play most of the game on defense. She is aggressive and ready for action out there.

Their team is doing really well.

They look happy as they exit the field!

Good sports too.

St. Patrick's Day Shenanigans

Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling

These two showed up at church like this! I was there early for my meeting and I cracked up when I saw them come in. Eventually the mustache came off. Still, I doubt that they got pinched.

Cute St. Patrick's treat from Grandma and Grandpa.

Saint Patrick's Day Dance

Our ward and Culpeper ward hosted the March Stake Youth Dance. We chose to do a St. Patrick's theme, made invitations (thanks, V) and decorated. Culpeper provided refreshments.
I wish I had gotten more pictures of the decorations- the Williams and Victoria and I decorated the night before! Thanks, Abby and Karson!  Kathryn, Morgan, and Christian helped with the finishing touches right before it. Thanks, Hughes! It really looked cool and super green!  Special green lighting and shamrocks hanging in the trees outside welcomed the youth- I loved the entrance. We handed out green necklaces at the sign in table and had a festive photo booth as well.

The lighting (I borrowed about 11 laser lights!) looked so cool! Thanks, friends for trusting me to use them!

The DJ, Brother Quick, did an awesome job and even played some Irish music!

These pictures were taken early in the night, but about 65-75 kids came and had a really fun time! I got the feedback that some of  the guests thought it was more fun than their school's homecoming.

Success!

Math 24 Tournament

Grant had the opportunity to play in a Math 24 Tournament. He is in the club at school and was selected as an alternate to the team. He wasn't able to play all of the rounds, but played one. The Yowell team did really well with 3 in the top 8 and 2 kids, Toya and Beckett placing in the top 4.

Now that I know what it is (Grant didn't tell me much about it beforehand), I understand that it is a card game and you collect cards by being the first to tap it and explain how you add, subtract, mutiply or divide using all 4 numbers on the card to get to 24.

After the tournament, I ordered the game so Grant and Victoria can teach the rest of us how to play. Victoria told me that she played it sometimes in Mrs. Peterson's class in 6th grade.

JV Lacrosse

Victoria is playing lacrosse this season! She is playing defense. She is a starter and has played the majority of each of the games she has played so far. She is aggressive on the field, but also still a cheerleader for her team. It is fun to watch her go for it. This is a highlight from her first game, their first home game against EV. Great crash, V!

It is also so fun to watch this social butterfly maintain and grow relationships and develop new friendships!

Victoria and baby Luke

Victoria really enjoys her child development class this semester. This week she had to bring a robot baby home. He cried a lot, needed to be changed, and fed and held. It was a little funny, but also hard for Victoria. She came downstairs in the morning complaining of exhaustion and told about all of the hours that she saw through the night.  I couldn't stop laughing.

It is a good exercise though. They have to walk around school with a maternity belly on  some days too. I think students learn a lot doing these things.

Winter Sports Awards

I missed the winter sports awards this time around. I was at baseball practice with Grant and Katherine.  Danny was there though.  Christian got these awards.

Way to be a scholar athlete!

I haven't seen Victoria's yet, but I heard she got a sportsmanship award! Go, V!

Update: Yep. She did! And she shared some pics.
Continuous Dedication- Chloe
Sportsmanship- V

funny pic with Taylor
And two of the girls she is going to miss like crazy when they go to college! She tears up when she thinks of it.
Paige left early. Where is Amaya?
Thanks for all you do, Coach Adrienne!

Flex Tape Fan

"I sawed this boat in half!"

We visited Grandma and Grandpa the day of the show choir competition. Grant and Katherine stayed with Grandpa while Grandma and I saw V's team perform. We went to the mall afterward and there was a "As Seen on TV" type store. They had all kinds of flex tape and Grant loves those commercials.

Koste Classic

Show Choir Competition Day!

The Devil's Virtuoso did not place; however, Victoria got the Best in Show for the females! Each team was awarded 2 awards- one male and one female. She is full of great facials and is very eye catching in the way she moves and connects to an audience. Great job,V!
