May 2022

May started with my birthday celebration fiesta on Sunday night since we didn't have a chance to celebrate the day before. V and Danny and the fam took care of everything and I had a nap while they set up. Mia, Spencer, Bobby and Kattia's family, the Barnhurst family, the Genhos, and our missionary friends came. Mia brought beautiful flowers, Spencer brought a nice plant in a pot, Kattia gave me earrings, Kristie gave me a fun new game called "Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza" and Lynnie gave me diet coke and a promise for lunch!  I felt very loved and we enjoyed games, good food, and good company! I loved it!

On May 2, I believe, Katherine got into the car giggling. I asked her how the County Math 24 championship went. She teased, "There wasn't even a chance.....(tried to put her head down dejectedly)..... that anybody else could win!' If you don't know Katherine well, you might think, "Wow, that is rude!" But she would NEVER say that in front of anyone else. In fact, I will take this down if it embarrasses her, but it was darling how excited she was and the funny fib that she came up with . I caught it on video!

Katherine and Summer, classmates and friends, took Gold and Silver for the county!
(I snagged this pic from the Yowell facebook page a few days later)

And a day of two later, I got to see the real medal up close and personal.
I love my rockstar mathematician!
V had a fun outing with Jeff to the beach at Lake Anna State Park and then they met up with Spencer and went to Bass Pro Shops.

I love watching Christian run!

He has made some good friends at track and it is also fun to keep up with friends from middle school who went to EV too.

Katherine had a great opportunity to train with Girls onf the Run this year. The staff members who ran it, Mrs. Meyers, Mrs. Funn, and Ms. Galia were terrific and it was a great group of girls too! They practiced a couple days a week after school and gained endurance and stamina when running, and strengthened their confidence and social skills too!

Suzie is an amazing student-athlete at CCHS. We asked her if she would be willing to be Katherine's running buddy and she was!

They did an amazing job! Suzie pushed her just the right amount- good pacing! The Girls on the Run girls were not given official times because the goal wasn't to finish in a certain time, but to do your best and have fun. They definitely did, but at the awards, we found out (and we had also noticed from watching the finish line) that Suzie won 2nd place in her teenage age group! In a totally classy and awesome move, she gave Katherine her medal! From what we saw, one high schooler (Bella Hardaway who is a state placing cross country runner and friends with Suzie and Christian) and two middle school girls on the run runners came in ahead of them. I know I am bragging, but I think Kate may have a future in distance running if she wants it because she was the first elementary-aged girl to cross the finish line! She takes after V who was a quick 5k runner at that age and Christian who has run cc for the past several years! Plus, she doesn't hate pain too much and pushes through it. On the day she ran 2 miles for the first time she told me, "I threw up in my mouth, but I swallowed it and kept going." Eek. I definitely don't have her kind of grit/determination, but I admire it!
Something that I think is even more important than being fast, is being a good sport and a good teammate and Katherine was! I loved watching her cheer for her friends and teammates at the finish line!

Dad and I were so happy with Kate's successful morning! Kate and Suzie felt accomplished too!

That evening was prom, which made Suzie running with Katherine so early in the morning even nicer because she would have a late night.

Ok, Christian was adorable! He made Mia's wrist corsage! He selected the ribbon and baby's breath and the main flower from the store and greenery from our yard. He truly is a thoughtful boyfriend.

Christian and Mia looked stunning!
Thanks for being the photographer,V!
They went to dinner in Orange at Forked on Main and took pictures in downtown Orange

In spite of the rain, they got some great pics!

Christian and Mia didn't go to a party after prom. Instead, they opted for a movie night. I think they had a great time!

Ok, my video probably won't load,  yep, it didn't but I heard some loud noises outside and looked out the door and at the trash cans and I got to watch the neighborhood bear up close! Very cool, but also a tad scary that it is sometimes super close to the house. We will need to be mindful outside and in our driveway at night.

Mother's Day surprises- ferns for the front porch and peanut M&Ms.

We went to see my mom too and had dinner and cheesecake, if I recall, with her! Love her!

Katherine at the Cancer is Messy Event
It was an exciting day on the farm with music, yard games, bake sales, raffles, treats,
bald-head contest,
slip and slide, mud pit, cornhole,
facepaint, horse shoes, what is this game called?
bounce houses, and more! Totally cool event in honor of Anne and others going through childhood cancer. A lot of great volunteers and friends, and mainly a loving mother, put on an awesome event!

That night, I got a little rockstar and went to an 80's prom in Oakton!

It was fun to chaperone with these ladies! We worked the photo room and it was rad!

Christian wasn't there, but Megan was!!!! Yay!

It was a super fun event!
Fredericksburg Stake hosts in 2023, so we have a lot to plan and look forward to as well!

V and Spencer went to Williamsburg. It did not go well.
That is, Spencer broke his arm/elbow and just a few days later, broke up with V.
He is "not the one" (inside joke. I think he would be ok with this joke), but really they are still friends.

Christian, Ethan, Shannon and Leah were invited to sing with the Blue Ridge Chorale! They sang solos in the Phantom of the Opera Medley and it was beautiful!

Christian received awards at the school's Recognition of Excellence for Theater and for Academic Spotlight.
C is going to miss Tyler and Spencer next year. (Sad face)
Good thing Mia will still be around! They have the cutest dates. "Let's draw three words each and then  try to incorporate them into a painting!" They did it well! C, can you please send me pictures of the paintings?

Memorial Day Weekend at the river was fun! I didn't take many pictures, but V made a really cute reel.
Water loving girls!

Happy birthday, Lorel!

Thanks for being a fun coach, Danny! Slip and Slide party for both teams after softball was super fun!

School is out, Memorial Day has passed- it's summer! Wahoo!
