Joyful January Happenings

It was good to start the new year with some walks with the girls!

Check out the fog!

V is still splitting the week between here and Richmond, but I love when this entertaining girl is home!

I loved my visit to Farmville!
 Jenn and Maria went shopping.

Then, we had dinner at Corinne's beautiful new house. She and Hugh have done an amazing job renovating. I always love being with these ladies. Everyone brought good food and we celebrated Maria and Courtney's birthdays. I miss our Monday nights, but it is always so nice to reunite. I loved being with them!

So, I called this Joyful January Happenings. It makes the most sense to focus on the positive, so that is what I aim to do. However, I sometimes struggle post holidays and in the cold. Motivation is low when everyone goes back to school and work and I feel lonely. So, sometimes I have to intentionally message a friend with before and after pictures to get things done. Here is an example from a recent morning. I took pictures of the house looking out of control and sent them to Lynnie.
Then, I tidied and sent after pictures. She doesn't care if my house is a mess and understands and says good job after. I do the same for her sometimes. It is helpful!

Also, I was still coughing and being short of breath for weeks and needed a nap most days. Uggh, but also, I love naps, so I can't complain too much. Haha. What really concerned me was my fingers turning gray! Eek, luckily it was only really bad once and I had a pulse ox and albuterol to help.

Not edited- notice my tan skin on the top of my hand and the grayish bluish purple of my fingers?! Crazy, right!

I had never seen this before and hope to not see it again. If it happens again I will surely see a doctor. I woke Danny up to show him and he was droggy and said, "I think they are fine."
"No, man, I am pretty sure that my hands looking like they are from a corpse is not fine."

Katherine got a positive office referral for helping with the younger cast members backstage during the play. I heard that she was very kind and got everyone to behave quietly.

Christian went on a fun field trip to Verdun with his new E2 (E-squared) class. I loved seeing this funny teambuilding activity picture online.

They drew names for teams he was really excited about his team. He anticipates that they will all work really hard and will work well together. I anticipate that they will create something amazing and that he and his teammates, Faith, Kourtney, and Alexis will likely show up in future posts.

Katherine tried a volleyball clinic through the parks and rec and liked it. She also joined a new volleyball club at her school on Wednesday and Friday mornings before school. Her coaches, Mrs. Zakowski and Ms. Thornhill, are great and are teaching the girls the basics in hopes that they will enjoy it and want to play in the future!

Grant's wrestling season is continuing. I took a few pictures of the captains,  Grant, Aiden, and Austin, leading the team in warmups and stretching.

Katherine was really excited about her upcoming debate at school. She researched during Grant's wrestling match and at night. Her topic was animal testing and she argued the pro side.

All of her extra prep paid off! She won the debate!

I messaged her teachers to tell them how much she enjoyed it and they said that she was so passionate and truly talented at debate.

Maybe a lawyer in the family? Endless possibilities for these kids!

More wrestling!

I enjoyed meeting with the YCLs and camp director and YW presidency to talk more about Camp.

Not going to lie, I had a blast chaperoning the dance and catching up with Rachel and Kristie!

And these boys sure were entertaining in the hallway! They preferred mint cup basketball to dancing.

Christian's friends made cool/funny posters for his Indoor track Senior night!

It was an honor to walk with him.

We are proud of him and all of these cool hardworking Seniors!

Go Christian!

Katherine was glad to have a friend there too. He is adorable and hilarious.

I was so happy for Christian and Grant to have the chance to see Wicked with their schools' theater departments. What a great show and a fun night for them! I love that they took a couple pictures together too! They are so close. My eyes are welling up as I am typing this because we will miss Christian so much when he goes to college next year.

That night while the boys were away at the play, V was on a date, and Danny was working, K and I went to the store to get some cool yarn and a crochet hook. In ACE, they are doing a service project making mats for people who are homeless. They are making these mats out of stips of plastic grocery bags. They are crocheting them together. Katherine likes it, so decided that she would like to make a blanket. I have tried to crochet several times and have come to terms with it just not being my thing, but I am glad that she caught on quickly and likes it. I am looking forward to seeing this blanket!

I used to take V and friends to church dances all the time. I took C sometimes too, but not as much because of covid canceling so many. Anyway, now it is G's turn. He, Dawson, Levi, Kaylee and Abby went to one in Stafford. I ran errands in preparation for our cruise while they were there.

I also sent G this text because we had a debate in the car about whether this was a hoop and stick or a lasso. Haha, I win!
Had to throw in this satisfying picture of Katherine's ice. She was pretty pumped. In the background is Mia. She and Dawson ate dinner with us that night. V made a really good Mississipi Roast and we played a fun game and watched football.

V is still off on Mondays and came with me to cheer Christian on at the District track meet.

He ran the 500.

Look at that form!

He will run again at regionals in a few weeks.

It was a good start to 2023 and we have a lot to look forward to in February!
